A small solar electric or photovoltaic (PV) system can be a reliable and pollution-free producer of electricity for your home or office. At the current price point it is still not economical feasible to install them without subsidy. In certain specific cases however it might be an option to include them into the design.
In most solar PV installations the surplus of electricity will be sold back to the electricity company during the day. This way there is no complex battery setup’s required for storage. If mains electricity is not available, battery storage is the only option. Next to the batteries you’ll also need an inverter to convert the DC from the batteries to AC for the utilities in the house. These types of installation are used in remote areas or in specific cases as a backup solution.
